Pictured right: High Strength 9310 Steel Shaft Forging
Upset forging increases the diameter of the work piece by compressing its length. Through this process, a variety of shapes can be produced including hubs, shafts, gears and disks. Upset forging refines the mechanical properties by re-orienting the grain flow to the shape of the tool. The result is a component that is inherently stronger than components that have been cast, welded, or machined.
